RMI Corporation and Huawei-Symantec Joint Venture Announce Strategic Partnership and Use of RMI Multi-core Multi-threaded Processors in Security Appliances
RMI CEO Joins Huawei-Symantec Leaders and Security Industry Expert to Announce
Partnership and JV’s First High-Performance Unified Security Gateway Product
Cupertino, CA, and Beijing, China July 10, 2008 — RMI Corporation, a leading
provider of High Performance Processor Solutions for Networking, Communications and
Media Rich Applications, and Huawei-Symantec, a joint venture formed to develop
leading-edge security and storage appliances, today announced a Strategic Partnership
to utilize RMI’s multi-core multi-threaded processors for the J.V.’s storage and security
appliances, including the USG9000 and the USG6000. Huawei-Symantec also
announced the introduction of the Joint Venture’s first unified security gateway device
providing industry leading performance.
The announcement was made earlier today at a press conference in Beijing, China
highlighting the significance of the Joint Venture and its successful development
activities and to showcase the world-class R&D efforts between Huawei-Symantec and
RMI to deliver the unified security gateway device. Attending the press conference were
Mr. Su Li-Qing, vice president R&D, Huawei-Symantec, Mr. Behrooz Abdi, president and
CEO of RMI Corporation and Dr. Sunny Siu, president, RMI Asia, and Dr. Binxing Fang,
a CAE (Chinese Academy of Technology/Engineering) Fellow.

success,” said Mr. Su Li-Qing, president of Huawei-Symantec Joint Venture. “Part of that

The Huawei-Symantec joint venture was announced in May 2007 between Huawei
Technologies, a leader in next-generation telecommunications network solutions, and
Symantec, a global leader in infrastructure software to develop and distribute worldleading
security and storage appliances to global telecommunications carriers and
enterprises. The joint venture is intended to help carriers and enterprises effectively
address the constant need for innovation and increased security risks by offering
security and storage appliances that are easy to implement and maximize value to
customers. Those appliances include the USG9000 and the USG6000 series of high
performance security gateways.
